A leader, a conflict

Another small bit of family history I was able to piece together today:
Meet my early ancestor Sjoerd Pjibes Wiarda (1355 - 1410), depicted below (on the left side). [Now I know where I get my prominent calves from.]
Sjoerd's most remarkable achievements include leading the fight against Count of Holland, who, during the Friese War (1396-1401), subjected Friesland to his authority.
In 1399 Sjoerd was elected Friesland's fifteenth governor, and stayed in office until the year of his death, 1410. He was the last "Potestaat" to rule both Oostergo and Westergo, although for only portion of his office. In 1401, Haring Haringsma was elected to rule Westergo, while Sjoerd Wiarda ruled Oostergo. This may explain Sjoerd's broken spear and the Wiarda Crest on the ground in the second picture below.
The image here presented can be found in the collections of the Rijks Museum in Amsterdam (www.rijksmuseum.nl).
